IT’S ALIVE!!!

IT’S ALIVE!!!

Well, as most of you are aware, the blog had died. For those of you who are curious for a bit more information what had actually happened is that my home server (where this blog is hosted) had one of its hard drives fail. This didn’t crash the server initially but when I had performed an upgrade and went to restart the server it didn’t come back up.

Seeing as we were on the road and not at the house where the server was, I couldn’t see the screen to see why it wasn’t starting. Also, there is no screen attached anyway. So I did all that I could to test it remotely, nothing seemed to be working and as much as I love my sister I don’t think she would be able to offer me much help in the way of Linux server troubleshooting. I had to call in some other help. So I contacted my boss Dave. He was able to swing by the house and give the server a once over. Seeing that it may take more than a few minutes to fix, he suggested taking it back to the office.

Once the server was back at the office he was able to start the server in maintenance mode and stabilized it enough for me to work on it remotely. I did some digging once I was in a place where I had stable internet connection and discovered that one of the hard drives in the server failed. There are several hard drives in the server but luckily the hard drive that this blog runs from wasn’t the one that died.

So, after getting it stable and determining that the blog could be brought back up I asked Dave to return the server and set it back up. I ended up losing access to some of the other functions that I had working on the server (like my media server Plex) but for now the blog is back up and running. Also, there is a possibility I may yet be able to recover some of the other functionality that went down.

Soon we’ll post a giant update to let everyone know everything we’ve been up to the past two weeks since the last update. Then normal updates as we keep on our journey!

Thanks again, Dave, for everything!
