Update time!

We lucked out and found a spot in Yosemite to camp the night of the 3rd! But when we opted to move camping spots for the second night, we realized the full extent of what Independence Day in Yosemite National Park meant… There were just SO👏many👏people👏. There was nowhere to park, let alone camp, so we spent the last night in an adorable little campground just outside the park entrance called Summerdale. There was a stream running behind the campground and Kate and I waded through the chilly water only to find what looked like gold flakes in our socks and shoes afterward. We set up camp, had dinner (grilled cheese and soup!) and slept in an open meadow.

Today we’re spending some time in a small town between Yosemite and Fresno called Oakhurst. There is a lovely community park here where I am writing this post from. There is a group of retirees nearby playing guitar and singing along with a sign up near them that reads “Friends in the park – Mon-Fri 10-2” – cute!

We’ve found a free campsite not too far from Yosemite that we’ll be in for the next night or two, then we’ll be back in the Yosemite Valley for our first Sunday before heading off toward Inyo National Forest. Then to Carson City and the Reno / Tahoe area – catch up with us there next!

Here are some pics from our first few days on the road, featuring a few for the last picture-less post!
